Bald Cypress, Taxodium distichum

Bald Cypresses are native to the Southern and Southeastern United States, and are a very common sight to those that can recognize them. They are unique in that they have “knees” that can often be seen nearby the tree popping out of the ground, which function as part of its root system. Their seed cones are spherical or globose in shape and can look like a heavily adorend on a Christmas tree when present.

Some of these photos are from San Antonio (December of 2022) where Bald Cypresses liked the San Antonio riverwalk (the San Antonio River); the rest are from Hopelands Gardens in Aiken, South Carolina (July 2026).
