Woodworks

My woodworking journey did not really have a single point of origin. It could have started with the first dining table I built, it could have started when I was a child, it could have started as a violinmaker, or it could have started with my interest in trees. In light of these various life experiences came my attraction to and my love for woodworking (and carpentry).

I had spent years learning the trade of violinmaking, and even violin repair and restoration. Simultaneously during that learning process, I had to constantly work on the layout and interior design of my violin shop, for both aesthetic purposes and practical purposes. We would constantly have a flux of inventory and repair projects coming in and out, and as we grew I had to figure out how to most efficiently utilize our space, so I had to constantly refine our workshop. I built a workbench with hand tools to start my violinmaking journey, and I had built all kinds of shelving to store things. During these years I realized that it wasn’t just violinmaking that I was drawn to. I found that I simply loved the process of creating, designing, or building - particularly when it came to woodworking.

There are numerous species of wood to work with and infinite possibilities when it comes to getting creative with wood, the thought of which is very exciting to me. I love everything about woodworking, and it is one of my life’s greatest joys to have found my connection to this art. However, in this field, I do believe we will always need to remember to think in terms of our planet’s environmental needs. For example, there are probably every day forests that are being clear-cut due to profit-driven and business-motivated reasons, but we can’t forget the importance of taking care of forests and the balance of the planet.
